enviro rangoli.jpg I had participated in World Environment Day 2017 celebration on 5th June 2017 and planted sapling of commonly known as Neem, having binomial name Azadirachtaindica. Neem is fast growing tree and reach up to 15–20 m (about 50–65 feet) tall. This Neem plantisone of the important and useful in Ayurveda. But, today’s article is mainly focused on basic things about Green House Gases (GHG), Carbon Footprint to understand what exactlythis is in brief. First point to understand in this aspect is that, for living on this mother earth some heat is required to keep this planet warm. At present earth’s average temperature is about 14 deg centigrade. So, to keep atmosphere warm, the heat of the sun shall always entrapped in the atmosphere or we can say shall not leave outside. This heat is always inside the planet with help of gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water. And, the gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water are called as Green House Gases (GHG). But, because of industrial growth worldwide, gases like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) are part of greenhouse gases. Now it will be easy to understand the Carbon Footprint, is the total of all gases which are part of green house. This Carbon Footprint is measure in terms of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent or Tons of CO2 equivalent per year. In day to day life we use phrase” Carbon Footprint is increasing and shall reduce”. This is having simple meaning; we have to reduce gases like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and to reduce this we should think of plantation, solar energy in place of thermal energy and wind energy. plantation PS:The above picture having caption “Plant Trees help the earth” is traditional rangoli art created by my wife Arti Shrouty.
