World standard day had been celebrated on 14 th  Oct 2018 and World Quality Day will be celebrate on coming 8th November 2018 , both celebration has its own important when world more focusing on the quality and level of quality being upgraded day by day.

My definition of Quality is,

“Exceeding the requirement of DESIGN/SPECIFICATION/VALUES in product and /or service with incremental value addition”.

This year (2018) theme for World Standards day was “International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”

About World Standards Day

World Standards Day celebrated each year on 14 October by members of IEC, ISO and ITU.

IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission

ISO – International Organization for Standardization

ITU – International Telecommunication Union

The day honours and tribute to effort of expert who develop the standard.

Why celebrate on 14 October?

14 October 1946 was the day when first meeting of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) held in London. So, this day celebrate as birth of International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

History of most popular Standard on Quality Management System
  1. First ISO 9000 published in 1987 which is equivalent to BS 5750.
  2. First revision of ISO 9000 was in 1994.
  3. Revision in 2000 to ISO 9001:2000 (This combine the ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003 version).
  4. Revision in 2008 to ISO 9001:2008.

In India BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) give first place for “Specification for the National Flag of India (Cotton Khadi)”.

Indian Standard for “Rules for Rounding off Numerical Values”.

Over all, standards play a very important role in product manufacturing and service industries, help to understand and compare by keeping on same platform. Standards help to understand the technical requirement.

Standards give the customer / consumer a confidence on the product from the point of view of its Quality, Reliability and Safety.

WORLD QUALITY DAY celebrates every year on second Thursday of November with intent of increasing the awareness of quality and contributions of quality in every part of world. This also helps not only to show case growth of organization, achievement(s) of team, individuals but also prosperity of any nation.

WORLD QUALITY DAY celebration starts recently from year 2008 at the Imarsat Conference Center in London.

This year, 2018 theme for WORLD QUALITY DAY is “Quality: A Question of trust”.

Importance of theme of WSD2018 and WQD2018:

This year theme for celebration in both cases is very relevant for economic, Industrial growth of India and all countries of world.

On one side in case of World Standard day theme was “International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution” and for World Quality Day theme is “Quality: A Question of trust”.

We can find that as International standard going to upgrade as per the requirement of new technology, Digitization , Artificial Intelligence and overall as per  fourth industrial revolution, that definitely cannot achieve through neglecting the Quality and for that to achieve trust is required, which is nothing but the theme of World Quality Day.

Fourth Industrial Revolution will be happened in areas like,

Transportation and logistics, which required connectivity, to do this TRUST required.

Construction, considering planning and keeping environment at first place, this will come with TRUST.

Renewable energy to go extra miles like in India for electric vehicle, charging station installation is need of hour because transformation is about to happen.

Above are the some examples where we found that both themes go hand in hand.

So, to educate the people and increase the awareness among, celebrating World Standard day and World Quality Day is a must need of hour and will act as game changer.
